We were blown away about the boldness of the content given; since we only get snippets of that from story books we get from our local library. Finding those books that celebrate our Black richness, can feel like an expert scavenger hunt. It was nice to have literature and conversations that you didn’t have to spend so much time scrolling and threading through, to have access to beautiful representation of us. The B is for Black Brilliance curriculum is incredibly unique and satisfying. The prompts were intentional and inviting. I really enjoyed connecting with my daughter over her Black Brilliance and the opportunity that this platform created for me to uplift her existence was amazing. I was also encouraged by the community that I found through other parents who participated. I definitely recommend this curriculum to further support families highlight the ways our children are brilliant.

How does Black & Brilliant adapt to different learning styles?

We cater to diverse learning styles to enrich every child’s evolution. Our curriculum includes rhythmic songs for auditory learners, hands-on activities for tactile learners, and visually stimulating books and dance for visual learners.

How am I billed for my Black & Brilliant subscription?

Our program is a recurring subscription that is billed $97 for 3 months.

Can Black & Brilliant be integrated with other educational curricula?

Our multi-sensory approach enhances learning and enjoyment, seamlessly integrating with other educational curricula for a well-rounded experience.

How are the Black & Brilliant lessons set up and shared?

Our curriculum is structured in a course-like model, so that you can easily track your child’s progress and accomplishments over time. Lessons are shared weekly along with the Caregivers Companion Guide. This approach not only provides a clear roadmap of their learning journey but also allows you to celebrate each milestone as they grow and develop. It’s an intuitive system designed to give you and your child a sense of achievement and visibility into the educational journey as it unfolds.

At B is for Black Brilliance, we acknowledge and amplify Black brilliance. We design and share engaging, joyful, pro-Black books and materials that celebrate real-life examples of Blackness as genius for caregivers and kids.

All of our materials are created by Black creatives ensuring that Black brilliance is acknowledged amplified, and celebrated today and always. We hope this movement awakens a more profound knowledge of Black creators and ultimately propels us to the center of conversations about who to trust with knowledge as leaders, innovators, and curators for generations to come.

A Note from Our Founder & CEO

I grew up in a world where I rarely saw Black people or Black brilliance in books, movies, or lessons.

My school supplies often had non-Black characters displayed on them, and the heroes we talked about at school were rarely the same race as me.

When I became a teacher in 2004, I was shocked to see that not much had changed. I looked everywhere for books and stories about Black characters for my students to read and learn about Black brilliance in meaningful ways. Then, I was reminded of my own reflections as a child and young adult.

Fast forward to 2017, still only 11% of all children’s books featured a significant Black character which amounts to only 330 books—only 100 of which were written and illustrated by Black people.

I founded B is for Black Brilliance because it’s time to educate our children differently. B is for Black brilliance equips caregivers, educators, and kids with vibrant books, resources, and tools that affirm and celebrate Black history AND Black futures.
